The Two Best New Designer Clothing Brands of 2009

2009 was a great year for men’s designer clothing, seeing in the debut release of several fresh and exciting collections. New brands were released all across the sector, but there were two that really stood out strongly amongst their competitors. And so, as 2010 has settled in, it is time to look back on these and celebrate their very first offerings.

Pretty Green

Pretty Green was always going to be popular in the United Kingdom, but was a little surprising was how well it was received Worldwide. The Pretty Green clothing collection was created by Liam Gallagher - an ex-frontman of British rock band ‘Oasis’. Gallagher was well known for his personality, looks, band and his contributions to British culture for many years before his came up with Pretty Green. When the news was first announced, his fans followed the fledgling brand feverishly awaiting news on from Gallagher about the designs, availability, price and looks.

The first collection was released in Spring/Summer 2009 and was an online exclusive available only through the Pretty Green website. Items sold out very quickly, and fans were soon crying out for more. The collection featured ‘Monkee’ jackets, t-shirts, Parka’s, canvass shoes, hats, scarves and polo shirts. Many of the items were strictly limited edition, with only 100 made available Worldwide. They sold out within an hour of becoming available.

The Pretty Green Autumn/Winter 2009 collection was announced to fans of the brand first through the social networking sites Twitter and Facebook, as well as through YouTube. Social networking has been a very important element in the Brand’s success. Gallagher has been taking and answering questions directly from the public through this medium since the brand was first announced.

Knowing that the Autumn/Winter collection will be an even bigger hit than the earlier Spring/Summer collection, Pretty Green expanded the range as well as its distribution policy. They chose 2 designer menswear retailers from each major city and 30 online stores. Independent stores were favoured over chain stores, and the 30 online stores were chosen from amongst the brick and mortar stores.

Natural Selection

Natural Selection kicked up a storm when it debuted in Autumn/Winter 2009. This hard-wearing, hard-living denim brand is, as their motto suggests, ‘Immune to Compromise’. This is a brand that is all about the quality, craftsmanship and build of the clothing.

The brand is inspired by Charles Darwin’s Theory of Evolution. ‘Natural Selection’ is described by Darwin as the process by which weaker, less intelligent traits and characteristics and removed from a species’ gene pool. Only the strongest specimens survive, and these pass their superior genes into their offspring. Over time, species’ enhance their strengths and filter out their weaknesses. This is the inspiration behind the Natural Selection brand - only the best is good enough, and even that has to get better over time. There is no place for the weak, and half-hearted efforts with a willingness to compromise can only fail.

This is where Natural Selection Denim excels. They have focused solely on the jeans - no peripheral t-shirts or accessorised gimmickry - they’re a denim brand and so they make denim jeans. The Denim is some of the toughest, most resistant in the World. The denim clocks in at 14oz, this is a good 2-4ox heavier then what other brands use (6 oz. heavier than some of its more questionable competitors!) and is masterfully put together by people who very clearly know what they are doing. The jeans have a strong red selvedge, tough pockets and feature the Natural Selection logo embossed into fine leather on the waistband.

Natural Selection jeans rival Prps in terms of style and certainly in build quality. Both use similar production techniques and are oozing with style. This is certainly a brand to watch in the coming years and will definitely give other premium denim brands a run for their money.

British football legend, David Beckham, is known for his great fashion sense throughout the World. He is highly regarded as a trend-setter, and has significantly contributed to the success of many brands (not least Money clothing!). It is believed that Beckham is a fan of Natural Selection jeans, although he is yet to state it. He has been spotted wearing jeans which look similar, but the photos are not clear enough for a positive identification.

Luke Simon - Looking for 2010

While Natural Selection jeans and Pretty Green were great brands introduced in 2009, we have a whole year of new brands to look forward to now. One that really stands out, and is due for release in Spring/Summer 2010, is called Luke Simon.

Luke Simon Clothing is inspired by the fast paced life of city-living, clashed and fused with the relaxing atmosphere of a vacation at a beach. This is going to be the ideal choice for an easy-wearing, smart casual look this Spring and Summer.

There’s no tension with wearing Luke Simon clothes - it’s just straight-up chilled out clothing for those wishing to keep appearances. There are a lot of stripes, a few checks and plenty of pastel. The colours are strong without being overpowering and it all works together in harmony to really capture the spirit and atmosphere of summer. It is easy to imagine wearing a Luke Simon outfit on a hot summer’s day in a big city park, relaxing and playing games with friends and just absorbing the environment; the friendly chatter, the singing birds, the playing children, the sound of distant traffic and the emotion of bliss.

This is what Luke Simon is about, easy-living clothing for a hardworking lifestyle. Life does not often hand out breaks and free time, but when it does you should make the most of it.

Luke Simon’s debut collection is due for Spring/Summer 2010 and will be available in the USA and Europe, both online and in-stores. This is going to be a great brand to watch, and you’re sure to want to pick up a piece or two of the collection as soon as you can. Watch out for it hitting stores from early March.

7 Fashion Tips to Make You Look Thinner Without Losing Weight

Losing weight is not an easy task. It can be very frustrating to prepare for a big event only to find that your dress does not fit you properly. Well lucky for you there are ways to look thinner without losing weight. Sometimes it what you wear and how you wear that can make it look as thought you are losing weight or are thinner.

1 Dark Colors

Once I made the mistake of wearing a white dress when I had picked up a couple of extra pounds. To my utter disgust, I found that the white made me look like a total whale. If I had just opted for a navy blue, brown or black dress, it would have been a much different result. When dressing to look thinner, it is important to take into consideration the color that you wear. When you are trying to look thinner, remember that darker colors are slimming. If you have gained a little weight, you might want to skip that yellow or pink dress and grab the black tube dress.

2 Spanx/Shapewear

Shape wear have been a godsend for me. After delivering my son, my waist was non existent. During pregnancy I gained about 50 pounds and I had a difficult time losing weight with a newborn. After surfing the web for fashion tips on enhancing your curves, I discovered waist training and shape wear. If you have a perfect dress for a party, but your thighs are a tad too big or your waist isn’t quite small enough, grab a pair of Spanx or a regular ole piece of Shape wear. Shape wear can make you lose and inch of your waist INSTANTLY. You will go from hubba bubba to Jessica Rabbit in 0-20 seconds. However, there are a few things to consider. If you are purchasing shape wear to wear in the summer time under thinner materials, you want to go for Spanx. Spanx does not have the wires that some shape wear has. These wires are visible at times when wearing thinner materials. You also want to consider the size. If you are waist training and want to lose an inch or two off your waist, you should buy your shape wear one size too small. For example, if I am a size medium blouse, I would buy a small in shape wear. Keep in mind, shape wear is not necessarily meant to be comfortable when used for waist training.

3 Say No to poorly fitted attire

Some believe that wearing baggy clothing makes them look thinner. Actually the opposite holds true, baggy clothing can make you look bigger and sloppier. Baggy clothing allows for no shape or definition to your figure. At the same time, extremely tight clothing is also not good. Most times tight clothing draws attention to problem areas, bulges and bumps. There are times that tight clothing can even expose that unsightly cellulite in thighs and buttocks. It is possible to wear fitted clothing that is NOT too tight. When dressing in fitted pieces, please make sure that the clothing does not expose any bulges or bumps. If you zip a skirt and a muffin top appears, that skirt is too small. If something is slightly tighter than you would like, consider wearing shape wear under the piece.

4 Low Rise Jeans

When someone mentions low rise jeans, many envision those jeans that expose your buttocks or unsightly pubic hair. Well there are several brands of women’s jeans that are low rise and sit just below the waist line. Allot of these women’s jeans, when purchased for your frame, allow you to move freely without exposing any of your private areas. However low rise jeans that sit below your waist giving the allusion of a longer more slender abdomen.

5 Careful with your patterns

Patterned material can hurt you and help you. If you are trying to draw attention away from a large bust area, you would want to avoid large patterns. It is acceptable to wear patterned clothing; you just want to make sure that the patterns are small and worn correctly. For instance, to make wide hips look thinner, you may consider a dark pencil skirt and a patterned top. The dark color on bottom is slimming and the patterned top draws attention to your top half.

6 Wear High Heels

Wearing high heels can help you look thinner in two ways. Number one and the obvious, high heels make you look taller. The taller you are the thinner you appear. Number two, heels are also great for your legs. High heels make your calves look slender and more defined. High heels are a must for looking thinner without losing weight

7 Good Posture

Last but not least good posture can take you a long way. Poor posture can make you look dumpy and very sloppy. Great posture can make you look taller and leaner. One of the simplest things one can do to look thinner without losing weight is practice good posture.

Fashion conscious Bollywood

Bollywood and fashion hardly went together, but they did manage to pull off some trends in the past. Lately fashion has gripped Bollywood, from designer wear both Indian and International to adorn themselves from head to toe. 2009 was one such year, where the stars have become fashion conscious. This fashion consciousness has also spread to films. The most stylish film this year was Kambhakt Ishq. Kareena Kapoors pencil heels from the film have become a rage. But when it comes to look chic and casual, Love Aaj Kal definitely pulled it off. Deepika Padukones A-line kurts and Saif Ali Khans T-shirt and denim look created a trend. Blue was the film that soared the temperature with lara Duttas well toned body as she flaunted in a bikini. But the new comer has made T-shirt and sock look quite trendy. He has clearly defined cool with his fashion quotient.

White bead &amp shell necklace

I’ve been inspired to make jewelry again. I pulled out my box of beads & little treasures, and made a few necklaces. This one will be in my Hello My Friend shop soon. I included a pave’-crystal black bead, near the shell, adding a discreet illumination to the piece.

Apart from the necklace cord, all pieces are from recycled materials (vintage/thrifted jewelry and/or found objects).

Women’s Boots Styles

Women’s boots are among the most shopped for footwear when cooler weather is setting in. There are many internet websites that offer great prices for women’s boots; however some have better deals than others. Shopping around for the best prices as well as the best deals will help you get more bang for your buck.

Women’s boots come in so many styles, it may be hard to choose just one pair. So why stop there? From wedge heel women’s boots to above the ankle, even knee high boots, there are so many to choose from and so few days to wear them all. Leather women’s boots make a statement with jeans and a blouse or a short skirt and jacket. Buckle women’s boots are more popular with the twenty-something crowds, while wide calf boots seem to be more popular with the thirty-something women.

For those that are into the club scenes, fringed boots over top of skinny jeans are the new craze, while the more sophisticated knee high boots worn beneath straight legged jeans is more appropriate for women whose clothes make the statement and not the shoes.

Women’s boots come in more colors, materials and from more makers than ever before in history. From Timberland to New Balance, the companies are endless when it comes to choices of manufacturers and designers. Colors include every hue in the rainbow, and materials include rubber, leather, plastic, wool and wood for those who choose it. There are innumerable websites offering free shipping on orders over a certain amount, while others simply include shipping in the price of the women’s boots. There are other sites that offer free shipping and free returns on all orders. Deciding which site to use will depend on the designer of the shoe, and where they are offered at as well as the price and shipping costs.

From hiking boots to work boots, women’s boots can be worn with just about any wardrobe. If you do not dress up on a regular basis, simple ankle boots are enough to add a few inches to your height and still be comfortable enough to be worn with jeans and a sweater. For those women who want to add a statement to their outfit, stiletto women’s boots are not only a choice, but the choice. One designer in particular offers nothing but stiletto boots and has them in a variety of colors to match any outfit. Whether you are a business woman or a housemother, there are women’s boots to match your every mood and outfit.

Fashion boots that offer versatility in style and price, heels can be found from ? inch to 6 inches. For shorter women who do not wear heels often, a 2 inch heel is more than enough to add height and still be comfortable. Flat boots are considered a ? inch height, so even if you want to go with a shorter heel, this is fine for any outfit. Taller women should go for shorter heels, but flashier styles to bring attention away from height and to the outfit.
