Can Shoe Designers Create Comfortable Footwear?

Looking at the collection of shoes in my wife’s wardrobe, it was clear to me that ladies shoes come in all shapes, sizes and designs. Given the massive range of options available, why is it that my wife seems to spend so much time complaining that her feet are in pain?

I’m not sure when I first became aware of this issue or why I felt the need to investigate further, but it was clearly something that I needed to know more about! I wondered whether part of the problem might be that she wasn’t trying shoes on properly before buying them.

But I was assured that she spent quite some time trying them on in the store and would often try to wear them around the house for a day or two before venturing outdoors. This approach is intended to ensure that foot problems are avoided, although it’s evidently not working as well as it should. It seems that the problem is widespread, with female friends suggesting that they also struggle to find comfortable shoes.

It seems clear that designers and manufacturers are concentrating on shoes that look great but that they seem to be forgetting about comfort and health issues. There seems little sense in creating shoes that are so uncomfortable that consumers can’t even wear them. What’s the point in them looking pretty?

I wondered whether my approach might be different because I’m a man. I obviously look for footwear options that are stylish but I dread picking out shoes that won’t be good for my feet. Reading a few online reviews, I soon learned that many other women feel the same way as I do.

They also want shoes that are actually comfortable, but there are problems finding shoes that are just right. Some brands, such as Fly Flots, do have a good reputation but it’s clear that there are plenty of others that simply aren’t reaching the required standards.

It’s obvious that fashion designers can create comfortable shoes but I’d suggest that they need to work harder to reach that objective.
